Welcome to McCormick County --
the Entrance to Lake Thurmond

and More!  McCormick County is located in the Sumter National
Forest. It is home to three state parks, four Corps of Engineer
campgrounds and four day-use recreation areas, the Strom Thurmond Dam
and Visitors Center, as well as the Dorn Sport Fishing and Boating
Facility, the largest boat ramp complex in the southeastern United
States.  With all this and a 70,000 acre lake, it is easy to see why
we are often referred to as ?The Gem of the Freshwater Coast?.
Whether it?s fishing, boating, historical sites, old cemeteries,
friendly people, a new business location, or a place to  "kick back"
and call home -- McCormick County, a primary spot along the National
Heritage Corridor, offers you many opportunities to fulfill any
dream.  We stretch from Clarks Hill to Mt. Carmel with many
interesting stops along the way.
